The management of the Lagos State University has advised its staff and students to restrict movement within the Iba community during the forthcoming Oro festival.

In a statement signed by the Deputy Registrar, Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile, the institution said it received formal communication from the palace of the Oniba of Iba, Oba Sulaimon Adeshina Raji-Ashade, and other community leaders regarding the nine-day traditional rites.

According to the advisory, the festival will hold on Monday, August 25, and Friday, August 29, 2025, between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

The university directed members of its community to refrain from unnecessary movement within Iba and its environs during the specified hours for safety reasons.

The statement further advised that all academic, administrative, and personal activities be scheduled outside the restricted timeframe.

It also urged strict compliance with the directive and reminded staff and students to remain law-abiding throughout the period of the festival.

“The safety of members of the LASU community remains a priority. Staff and students are to exercise caution, comply strictly with this directive, and arrange all activities outside the affected period,” the statement read in part.

The management added that the palace of the Oniba had assured the university of its readiness to provide further information when necessary.
