One Dead, Five Injured After Man Deliberately Drives Car Into Crowd
A man has killed one person and injured five others after deliberately driving his car into a crowd outside a wine bar in Evreux, Normandy, France, early Saturday morning.
The incident happened around 4:00 am following an altercation involving a young woman and several men.
According to prosecutors, bouncers had earlier sent patrons outside before one man returned, reversed at high speed, and rammed into the crowd.
Evreux public prosecutor, Remi Coutin, said, “Unfortunately, the toll is very heavy.” He confirmed that one man died at the scene while two of the injured remain in critical condition.
Coutin explained that “there was an altercation” between a young woman and several men.
He added that “one person went to fetch a vehicle” and “deliberately reversed at high speed into the crowd outside the establishment”, stressing that the incident had “escalated and ended in a terrible tragedy”.
Authorities have ruled out any “terrorist” or racist motives but said investigations into homicide and attempted homicide are ongoing.
Police disclosed that two men and a woman have been arrested in connection with the attack.
