Yemeni Houthi Prime Minister Killed in Israeli Airstrike
The Prime Minister of Yemen’s Houthi-led government, Ahmed Ghaleb Nasser Al-Rahawi, has been killed in an Israeli airstrike on Sanaa, the capital city, alongside other top officials.
The Iran-backed rebels confirmed his death in a statement on Saturday, stating, “We announce the martyrdom of the fighter Ahmed Ghaleb Nasser Al-Rahawi… along with several of his ministerial colleagues, as they were targeted by the treacherous Israeli criminal enemy.
“Others among their companions were injured with moderate to serious wounds and are receiving medical care since Thursday afternoon.”
Al-Rahawi, who was appointed in 2024, is the most senior Houthi official so far to be killed in a series of Israeli strikes linked to the ongoing Gaza war.
Israel said its forces had struck a “Huthi terrorist regime military target” in the area on Thursday.
The Houthis, who control large parts of Yemen, have repeatedly launched missiles and drones at Israel in solidarity with Palestinians since the war in Gaza began.
The group has also targeted international shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, claiming the vessels were linked to Israel.
Yemen has been in conflict since 2014, with the Houthis forming part of Iran’s anti-Israel alliance, alongside militant groups across the Middle East.
