Man Electrocuted While Attempting To Vandalise Transformer
An unidentified man has been electrocuted while allegedly attempting to vandalise an electricity transformer at Borno State University, Maiduguri.
The body of the victim was discovered near the transformer on Sunday morning by campus security officials and residents of the institution.
Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Borno State Police Command, Kenneth Daso, said preliminary investigations indicated the man died while trying to tamper with the transformer.
“It is quite unfortunate. We received a distress call from Borno State University that a body was found near a transformer,” Daso told journalists.
“The body is yet to be identified, but from initial observations, the deceased appears to be between 40 and 50 years old. He attempted to vandalise the transformer and was electrocuted in the process, which led to his death.”
Daso explained that officers from the Bulunkutu Police Division and personnel of the Borno State Fire Service quickly responded to the scene. The corpse was later taken to the mortuary for further medical examination.
He added that forensic experts have been deployed to gather evidence to aid investigations into the incident.
“What we are trying to do right now is to see that we are able to evacuate the body and take it to the mortuary,” he said.
“Thereafter, we will find a medical examiner to do further examinations and we have our forensic experts who are also on ground to see that we gather every available evidence that we have to investigate the matter.”
