There was trouble in Nyakala Village in Bassa Local Government Area of the Plateau State as a police officer, Inspector Lasare Jeremiah, attached to the state Police Command, was mistakenly lynched by a mob.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo, said in a statement on Friday that the officer was killed on Thursday, September 10, 2025.
The PPRO explained that on the said date, officers from the Investigation Department, SCID, were probing a petition against one Adu Abdullahi, a resident of Kishika Village, Bassa.

“Both the officer and the suspect were rushed to Cottage Hospital in Kisalloi, Bassa, where the officer succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
“The suspect was referred to Jos University Teaching Hospital, where he later died.
“The incident is currently under investigation by the State CID in Jos.
“The Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command, CP Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, psc, expresses his grief over the unfortunate incident and cautions against unnecessary mob actions that negate the law.
“He assures that the perpetrators will be prosecuted in accordance with the law once arrested”, the PPRO said.
