Albania Appoints World’s First AI Minister ‘Diella’ To Eliminate Corruption
Albania has made history by becoming the first country in the world to appoint an Artificial Intelligence minister, entrusting a humanoid robot named Diella with the role of overseeing public procurement.
Prime Minister Edi Rama unveiled the development on Friday during a presentation of the new government’s priorities in the capital, Tirana.
He explained that Diella, powered by advanced artificial intelligence, would manage state procurement systems in a bid to curb corruption and improve efficiency.
Rama stressed that the move was not just symbolic but a practical step towards digital governance. He noted that procurement has long been plagued by irregularities, making it a major source of corruption in the country.
According to him, Diella is designed to handle processes with transparency, ensuring fairness and speed in awarding government contracts.
The Prime Minister added that Albania’s decision to integrate AI into governance reflects its ambition to be a global leader in digital transformation.
The appointment has sparked widespread debate, with supporters hailing it as a groundbreaking innovation while critics question the risks of allowing artificial intelligence such a crucial role in government affairs.
