Six Rescued As Another Two-Storey Building Collapses In Lagos
Six persons were rescued on Wednesday evening after a two-storey building collapsed on Modupeola Street, Mangoro, in the Alimosho area of Lagos State.
The incident, which occurred around 6 p.m., sparked panic in the neighbourhood as residents and passersby rushed to the scene before emergency responders arrived.
The collapse came barely two weeks after four people lost their lives when a three-storey building caved in at Bornu Street, Ebute Meta.
Confirming the development, the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said in a statement that operatives of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA) and other first responders were quickly deployed.
“A two-storey building has collapsed at 4, Modupeola Street, Mangoro bus stop, Alimosho, Lagos State. The LASEMA and other first responders got to the scene in good time and rescued a trapped victim and five others from the rubble,” Omotoso stated.
According to him, the trapped victim, a 44-year-old man who lives on Olabode Street, sustained fractures and bruises. He was rushed by the Lagos State Ambulance Service to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), where he was admitted in stable condition.
The five other rescued victims were taken to a nearby private hospital for treatment.
Omotoso further disclosed that the cause of the incident has not yet been determined, but investigations have been launched to ascertain the factors behind the collapse.
The incident adds to the growing concerns over frequent cases of building collapse in Lagos State. In July, four persons narrowly escaped death when a three-storey building gave way along Adeniji-Adele Road in the Isale Eko area.
