FG Withdraws Registration Certificate of NYCN
The Federal Government has announced the withdrawal of the registration certificate of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), citing prolonged leadership crises and violations of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020.
In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, Omolara Esan, the Ministry said it received an official communication from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) dated October 6, 2025, notifying it of the withdrawal of the certificate earlier issued to the NYCN on October 28, 2020.
According to the CAC, the decision followed an extensive investigation into the affairs of the Council, which has been plagued by an 18-year leadership crisis.
The statement explained that after reviewing the Council’s governance records, the Commission found serial breaches of both the NYCN Constitution and provisions of CAMA 2020, particularly Sections 833 and 834.
“Consequently, the Commission has de-recognized all existing claims to leadership, trusteeship, and management within the organization,” the Ministry stated.
The CAC has also constituted an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to oversee and manage the affairs of the Council for one year, effective October 6, 2025.
The Ministry, acknowledging the legal authority of the CAC, urged all youth stakeholders, member organisations, and affiliates to cooperate fully with the IMC during the restructuring process aimed at restoring unity and legitimacy to the NYCN.
“The Federal Ministry of Youth Development remains firmly committed to ensuring a stable, credible, and inclusive youth governance framework that upholds accountability, transparency, and aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,” the statement added.
