Nnamdi Kanu’s Case Should Be Settled Politically, Not In Court – Falana
Human rights lawyer Femi Falana has called for a political solution in the ongoing case of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu.
Falana made the remarks while speaking to journalists during a visit to Abia State Governor Alex Otti on Thursday.
He stated that there is no reason for Kanu’s case to continue in court, noting that some governments negotiate with bandits and other criminal elements.
“I cannot comment on pending proceedings. You understand me? Like you said, the case was in court today (Wednesday), but I believe it is a matter that should be sorted out outside the courtroom. For me, it’s a political case. And if some governments negotiate with bandits or other criminal elements, there can be no basis for not resolving this politically,” Falana said.
Meanwhile, the presidency has opposed former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore’s plan to hold a protest march to the Presidential Villa in Abuja demanding Kanu’s release.
Sowore announced the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest would take place on October 20 at 7 a.m., describing it as “historic” in the fight for Kanu’s freedom.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the demonstration threatens law and order, stressing that Kanu is currently on trial for treason, and the legal process must continue without interference.
