2026: Jettison Zoning For Competence, Osun APC Apsirant Urges Party

A gubernatorial aspirant under the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Engr. Dideolu Falobi has urged the party leadership to consider competence over zoning while choosing the party’s candidate.

Falobi, who is the Bobajiro of Ilesa, also urged aspirants not to heat up the polity, noting that their ambitions are not worth the blood of Osun electorates.

The gubernatorial aspirant stated this during an interactive session with Osun State media correspondents in Osogbo, the state capital, on Thursday.

“Zoning is an informal agreement and if we are to go by what has happened since 1999, Osun East deserves to produce the governor. Osun Central has served thrice, Osun West twice, while Osun East produced a Governor just once.

“But more importantly, I don’t think we should be talking about zoning. I think we should put our best forward. We have too many problems to be seeing it from the perspective of zoning. For me, it is about the person who can do the job well.

“I don’t have issue with any aspirant. They are all my people. I believe God is the one who crowns a King. If God says I will be the Governor, no problem but I don’t want us to create tension because nobody’s ambition is worth the blood of other people.”

Speaking on why he came out to contest the gubernatorial election scheduled for August 08, 2026, Falobi said he believed Osun deserved better than what it currently gets.

He noted that despite the huge potential of the state in terms of natural resources, citizens faced poverty, insecurity, and underemployment.

Falobi, who said Osun’s economy was underperforming with infrastructure decaying, promised to build a state that works for everyone and not just a privileged few.

“I have offered myself to serve as the next Governor of Osun State because I believe deeply that our people deserve better — and that together, we can do better.

“Our beloved Osun is richly endowed — with intelligent people, fertile land, natural resources, and a proud heritage. Yet, the reality today is that many of our citizens face poverty, insecurity, and underemployment. Our economy is underperforming, our infrastructure is decaying, and our institutions are weak.

“I am running to rebuild trust, restore confidence, and renew hope — to build an Osun that works for everyone, not just a privileged few,” Falobi added.

The Bobajiro of Ilesa highlighted his vision for Osun to include the “reconstruction of infrastructure and institutions, revitalization of the economy, reinforcement of society and governance, and resourcefulness and human capital development.”

The governorship hopeful said his administration, if elected, will be based on integrity, innovation, inclusion, and impact.
