Sowore Remains Wanted – Police
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has reiterated that activist Omoyele Sowore remains wanted, pledging that the police will take all lawful measures to arrest him.
Jimoh made the statement on Wednesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, noting that Sowore has yet to report to the police since the declaration.
The police chief recalled that Sowore was declared wanted on Monday for allegedly “causing a disturbance of public peace and planning to obstruct traffic on the Third Mainland Bridge,” describing the actions as acts likely to commit a serious felony.
“My declaration that Sowore is wanted is still in force,” Jimoh said.
He added that Sowore’s lawyer contacted him via text message on Monday while he was responding to a riot.
The message was forwarded to the Officer-in-Charge of Legal at the Nigerian Police Force for follow-up.
“They agreed that Sowore would report at the CID, where the investigation is ongoing. The normal practice is to conclude inquiries before proceeding with an arrest,” Jimoh explained.
However, he said Sowore has failed to report as agreed. “He has not shown up, and we will do everything within the ambit of the law to ensure he is arrested, investigated, and prosecuted for these offences,” he added.
