President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s determination to defeat terrorism in Nigeria, insisting that the country will not be intimidated or distracted despite growing international concerns.

In a statement posted on his verified X account on Friday, the President responded days after US President Donald Trump threatened possible military intervention over alleged attacks on Christians in Nigeria.

“We face challenges head-on and remain steadfast in our commitment to engage partners and champion Nigeria’s interests on the diplomatic front,” Tinubu said.

He emphasised that Nigeria would continue to assert itself globally “with calm, clarity, and a strong sense of purpose.”

Addressing the nation’s security situation, Tinubu acknowledged that terrorism has plagued the country for nearly two decades but maintained that his government would not relent.

“We are indeed faced with terrorism — a challenge Nigeria has faced for almost two decades — and we will not back down. We will decisively defeat terrorism and claim victory in this battle. Security is non-negotiable, and we will never compromise on this principle. With unwavering courage and a steadfast commitment to the rule of law, we will prevail,” he stated.

The President reiterated that national security remains paramount and urged Nigeria’s international partners to continue supporting the country’s counterterrorism efforts.

“We urge our allies to stand firmly with us as we amplify our fight against terrorism. We have made significant progress in the past two years, and we will decisively eliminate this threat,” Tinubu said.

He also commended members of the armed forces and intelligence community for their sacrifices in safeguarding national unity, adding, “Your commitment is our strength in the fight against terror.”
