A social critic and National Coordinator of the Concerned Citizens of Nigeria, Apesin Abiodun Adegoke, has called on the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Mr. Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, to immediately comply with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Electoral Act 2022 by resigning from office.
Oyebamiji is one of the gubernatorial aspirants under the All Progressives Congress in Osun State.
Section 182(1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which states: “No person shall be qualified for election to the office of the Governor of a State if he is a public servant in the service of the Federation or of any State and has not resigned, withdrawn or retired from such employment or appointment at least thirty (30) days before the date of the election.”
Also, Section 84(12) of the Electoral Act 2022, which provides that: “No political appointee at any level shall be a voting delegate or be voted for at the convention or congress of any political party for the purpose of the nomination of candidates for any election.”
The primary election of the APC to choose the flag bearer of the party is scheduled for December 13.
Adegoke, who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, said today, 13th November 2025, marks the constitutional deadline for Oyebamiji to resign from his position at the National Inland Waterways Authority if he intends to participate in the forthcoming APC governorship primary.
“In view of the clear provisions of both the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act 2022, today will be the rightful date for Mr. Oyebamiji to step down from office to pursue his political ambition. We expect him to act honourably and allow another competent Osun indigene to continue the work at NIWA,”
Adegoke stated.
He concluded by urging the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) to ensure that Mr. Oyebamiji’s resignation letter is received before the close of business today, in compliance with the law and in the spirit of fairness.
