Soludo Debunks Rumours of Ex-Gov Obiano’s Death
Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has dismissed reports claiming that former Governor Willie Obiano has died.
In a statement on Friday, Soludo’s Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, described the circulating rumours as “malicious and utterly false,” adding that the governor had personally spoken with Obiano, who is alive and in good health.
“I view with grave concern the reckless circulation of such malicious rumours. It is both wicked and completely irresponsible,” Soludo said.
“I strongly urge media practitioners, especially online publishers, to uphold the ethics of journalism by verifying any information through official channels before rushing to publish. The spread of unverified death rumours is not only wicked and irresponsible but also erodes public trust,” he added.
Soludo urged members of the public to disregard the trending report, assuring them that Obiano remained hale and hearty. He also wished the former governor continued strength, peace and a long, fulfilling life.
Confirming the governor’s statement, Obiano’s former Commissioner for Information, C-Don Adinuba, said, “Contrary to the reports, Obiano is not in London and has not been hospitalised. He is strong, hale, and hearty, and bouncing in the US. Ignore the rumour—it is not from a credible source. Please, the report is fake; Obiano is still alive.”
Obiano served as Anambra State governor from 2014 to 2022, succeeding Peter Obi, and handed over to Prof. Chukwuma Soludo in March 2022.
