Kebbi Govt Dismisses Senator Maidoki’s Claims on Insecurity as “Baseless”

Kebbi State Government has condemned Senator Garba Maidoki’s recent remarks on insecurity and development projects, describing them as “baseless” and a “deliberate misrepresentation of facts.”

In a statement on Sunday, Abdullahi Idris, Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to Governor Nasir Idris, said Maidoki’s comments aimed to undermine ongoing security efforts following the abduction of students from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Sakaba Local Government Area.

Contrary to the senator’s claim that 200 communities were displaced by banditry, the government stated that official records show about 50 communities along the Wasagu–Sakaba axis were successfully returned home through coordinated operations by security agencies, deployed with the governor’s support.

Sadaukin Zuru added that military deployments and operational planning were centrally coordinated by Defence Headquarters, with the governor fully involved and providing necessary logistics.

The statement highlighted the administration’s security measures, including the provision of over 100 Hilux vehicles, 5,000 motorcycles, and the hosting of high-level security conferences with traditional rulers, military chiefs, and academics.

On infrastructure, the government noted that reconstruction of the long-abandoned federal Koko–Zuru road is ongoing under Governor Idris, insisting that the senator is aware of the project.

The administration also accused Maidoki of opposing “socially and economically viable projects” and failing to attend security or stakeholder consultations organised for representatives of affected communities.

The statement further alleged that Maidoki’s criticisms were politically motivated, citing his alleged alliance with ADC governorship aspirant Abubakar Malami, and claimed both politicians had engaged in media campaigns to undermine the APC-led government.

Despite recurring security challenges, particularly in the Zuru Emirate, the government insisted that the APC in Kebbi remains united and committed to addressing public concerns, including the recent abduction of schoolgirls in Maga.

Maidoki, representing Kebbi South, has frequently criticised the state government’s handling of security and infrastructure, fuelling ongoing political clashes with the APC administration.
