Guber Primary: Seyi Makinde Trying To Take Control of Osun PDP – Egbedun
Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, has alleged that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is attempting to take control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State following the controversial governorship primary held in Osogbo on Tuesday.
Egbedun’s reaction was triggered by the conduct of the primary election which took place in the absence of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Osun Defender reports that the election saw the emergence of Adebayo Adedamola as the party’s flag bearer for the August 8, 2026 election. Adedamola scored 919 votes out of 957, in a contest chaired by Humphrey Abba.
Speaking in a viral video, the speaker said the process was tainted by what he described as “external invasion,” noting that some individuals were allegedly brought in from Oyo State and acted as delegates during the primary.
Egbedun condemned the development, saying it was an attempt to destabilise the Osun chapter of the party.
“I am a bona fide PDP member. I won my election on the PDP platform. So it is strange and unacceptable to see people from Oyo coming here to conduct what looks like a drama. These are not our delegates,” he said.
He insisted that Osun PDP leaders had received a message postponing the congress and were waiting for a new date when the unexpected “importation of voters” happened.
“We’re at the floor of the house when we received a call that some people came all the way from Oyo State just to have what we can call a drama. We didn’t receive any notification from the state or national organs of the party. No notification whatsoever from any quarters,” he added.
“This is a message to Governor Seyi Makinde: if he is desperate to run for President in 2027, he should not use Osun State as a tool. We have 25 House of Assembly members, a Speaker, House of Reps membersweand Senators. No governor from another state can dictate to us. We won’t take that,” Egbedun declared.
His comments come amid internal turmoil in the Osun PDP, as Governor Ademola Adeleke announced his resignation from the party on Monday night, citing deepening internal conflict.
Egbedun said the party leadership in Osun will meet urgently to decide on the next line of action.
The Speaker reaffirmed that the Osun PDP would resist any external manipulation as the crisis ahead of the 2026 governorship election intensifies.
