The Accord Party on Wednesday held its governorship primary election in Osogbo, affirming Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, as the party’s flag bearer for the 2026 governorship election.

At the venue of the primary, party supporters and stakeholders trooped out in large numbers, singing and dancing as they awaited the arrival of the governor.

A video shared from the event captured enthusiastic Accord Party chieftains and loyalists chanting Adeleke’s praises while expressing confidence in his leadership and political strength ahead of the coming poll.

The atmosphere became even more electrifying when Governor Adeleke arrived, with supporters creating a carnival-like scene. Many displayed banners and placards bearing his name and campaign slogans, signalling what appears to be his growing acceptance within the Accord Party’s structure.

OSUN DEFENDER gathered that after the exercise, Adeleke was declared candidate with 145 delegates’ votes.

Several supporters at the event expressed readiness to follow his political direction, noting that they would stand by him regardless of the platform he chooses.

OSUN DEFENDER reports that Adeleke, on Tuesday evening, officially joined the Accord Party. His announcement came one week after he tendered his resignation from the PDP.

Adeleke had contested and won his first term under the PDP in 2022. His move to the Accord Party has since reshaped the state’s political landscape, triggering mixed reactions across party lines.
