EFCC to Charge Former Gov Ngige To Court
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) may charge the immediate past Minister of Labour and Productivity and former Anambra State Governor, Chris Ngige, to court today (Thursday).
Ngige was on Wednesday taken from his Abuja residence on Justice Mohammed Bello Road, Asokoro, by about 20 EFCC officers in what a family member described as a “commando-style raid.”
The family member added that he was taken away still in his pyjamas and was not allowed to change.
The former governor had been on administrative bail with the EFCC after cooperating with its investigations for undisclosed reasons.
Prior to his arrest, Ngige attempted a medical trip to the United States but lost his passport in the United Kingdom en route and returned to Nigeria.
He later obtained travel documents from the Nigerian High Commission in the UK to return to Abuja.
Upon his return, Ngige reportedly prepared a letter to inform the EFCC about the loss of his travel documents, but he had not submitted it before his arrest.
Sources said Ngige expressed surprise at the arrest, insisting he had complied with the terms of his administrative bail.
The former two-time minister is expected to be charged to court, where his lawyers may argue for bail.
