Residents of Oluyole Local Government Area along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, Oyo State, were thrown into panic on Tuesday evening following a powerful blast from Eminent Quarry that shook homes and business premises.

The explosion, which reportedly occurred around 7:50 p.m., caused buildings to vibrate violently, forcing residents to flee into the streets in fear.

Affected communities include Orisunmibare, Ekefa, Ajayi, areas around Aramed Hospital, and nearby corporate establishments.

Eyewitnesses described the incident as terrifying.

“Our buildings shook as if an earthquake had struck. Many of us ran out of our houses thinking it was a terrorist attack,” a resident of Orisunmibare said.

Another resident condemned the timing of the blast, noting that it occurred in the evening within a densely populated area.

“This is not just noise pollution; it is a serious threat to human life. Children, the elderly, and patients at Aramed Hospital were all terrified,” the resident added.

Community leaders accused the quarry of operating without adequate regulation or community consultation, describing its activities as incompatible with human habitation.

Medical personnel also expressed concern over possible panic-induced health complications, especially among patients with heart conditions and hypertension.

Residents are now calling on regulatory and security agencies, including NESREA and the Ministry of Solid Minerals, to investigate the quarry’s operations and suspend further blasting pending a thorough inquiry.

As of press time, Eminent Quarry had not issued a public response.
