The Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee, NWC of the
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has declared that there is no faction within the party.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, was reacting to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, rejection of the faction backed by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.

INEC had said it would not recognise the national officers of the party elected at the National Convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

In a letter dated December 22, 2025, and signed by its Secretary, Dr Rose Oriaran-Anthony, INEC said it could not upload the list of the elected officers on its website due to an existing court judgment.

According to the letter, the commission said its position was guided by subsisting court decisions and pending litigation relating to the leadership crisis within the opposition party.

It stated that it would be improper to recognise any factional officers while the matter remains before the courts.

Reacting, Ememobong said the PDP has appealed the judgment upon which INEC rejected the Turaki-led NWC.

A statement he signed reads partly: “The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party @OfficialPDPNig reiterates that in law and fact, there is no faction in the Peoples Democratic Party.

“This reiteration is necessary in the light of the @inecnigeria letter explaining their inability to recognise and upload the data of our legitimately elected leadership at the convention in Ibadan due to judgments of the Federal High Court.

The said judgments have been appealed, and an application for the stay of execution has been filed against the judgments, and very soon the Court of Appeal will hear and give judgment in the matters.

“The truth remains that there is no faction in the PDP as all the legitimate organs and the administrative structure of the Party are under the control of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN.”
