Renowned human rights lawyer, Barrister Funmi Falana, SAN, has described the prevailing insecurity situation in Nigeria as very shameful and embarrassing to the nation, insisting that the Federal Government appears helpless in addressing the crisis.

Falana lamented that the level of insecurity has deteriorated to the point where foreign intervention is now being contemplated.

She alleged that the involvement of the United States underscores the failure of leadership at the federal level.

She called on the President to take responsibility, urging him to resign if he lacks the capacity or solutions to secure the country.

“If he cannot protect Nigerians and does not have answers to these problems, then he should resign,” she said.

The human rights activist made the remarks while speaking to journalists in Iyin-Ekiti, questioning the government’s approach to insecurity, accusing it of lacking transparency and sincerity.

She expressed concern over international reactions, describing as embarrassing comments allegedly made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Nigeria’s security challenges.

According to her, past and present leaders bear responsibility for the rise of terrorism in the country, which explains the inability to decisively tackle it.

She also decried the growing insecurity in schools and the culture of impunity where criminals go unpunished.

Falana urged Nigerians to take their democratic responsibility seriously by electing leaders through the ballot rather than the courts, stressing that true progress depends on accountable and people-driven leadership.
