No fewer than three persons were killed and three others abducted during a late-night attack by suspected bandits on Bundu Kahugu community in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The attack, which occurred around 11 pm on Monday, December 29, 2025, threw the community into mourning and renewed calls for increased security presence in the area.

The National Secretary of the Bundu Kahugu community, Ishaya Dauda, confirmed the incident to PUNCH Online on Tuesday.

Dauda said the assailants stormed the village under the cover of darkness, firing sporadically and terrorising residents.

He said the community had suffered a similar attack barely two weeks earlier, during which four people were killed, heightening fears over the repeated assaults.

“The attackers came late at night and began shooting. Three people were killed instantly, while three others were taken away. This is the second attack on our community in less than two weeks,” he said.

Those killed in the latest attack were identified as Felix Augustine, Luka Yakubu and Ezra Namata.

Residents have appealed to the Kaduna State Government and security agencies to urgently deploy military personnel to the area to prevent further attacks.

They also called on telecommunication companies to improve network coverage in the community, noting that poor communication has often enabled attackers to operate freely and escape.

“We are pleading with the government to help us. The poor network here is aiding the attackers. We need security presence and improved communication facilities to save our people,” Dauda added.
