Police Watch As Women Protesting Insecurity Attacked at Kwara Govt House (Video)
A peaceful protest at the weekend by women demanding urgent action against insecurity in Oke-Ode, Ifelodun LGA of Kwara State, ended in violence at the Government House in Ilorin.
The women had gathered to call attention to ongoing terrorist attacks and the continued captivity of their husbands and children.
The protesters claimed the victims, who included their husbands, had been held by kidnappers for months without the government’s intervention.
During the protest, witnesses said a group of men, armed with canes, emerged from the government house and began striking the protesters, forcing them to flee.
Video footage on social media shows the assailants flogging and chasing the women as they screamed for help.
It is despicable that women and children protesting peacefully in front of the Kwara State Government House over mass kidnapping and insecurity were harassed, beaten, and humiliated while @PoliceNG were there watching. pic.twitter.com/k7wtiaUQAN

Several witnesses accused the police officers present of failing to intervene during the attack.
A woman in the video was heard saying: “Please help us, we are under the mercy of the kidnappers in Oke-Ode.”
The attack sparked widespread condemnation from residents and civil society groups.
On Monday, opposition leaders during a radio programme in Ilọrin, condemned the action.
They decried the “brutalisation of elderly women on a peaceful protest to the government house to draw attention to insecurity in their communities,” alleging that APC thugs were unleashed on the protesters.
But on Monday, in a response through his Facebook and a later statement, Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq denied any involvement of his administration in the attack.
He described the incident as unacceptable and inconsistent with the principles of his government.
