No One Who Betrays NNPP Ever Succeeds — Kwankwaso Responds to Gov Yusuf Defection Rumours
Former Kano State governor and New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has warned that those who betray the party never prosper, amid mounting speculation that Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf may defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Kwankwaso made the remarks while addressing his supporters in a video obtained by SaharaReporters, responding to rumours about his ally and successor potentially leaving the party.
“What I am seeing is even beyond what I expected because I am aware that a few, very few of you have decided to cross to the other side. Don’t worry, whoever knows them, advise them,” he said.
He expressed satisfaction with the turnout at the gathering, despite alleged moves by some party members to leave the NNPP.
“I’m very glad with the turnout today because I didn’t expect to see so many faces here, thinking they would follow the governor’s camp. But I want to remind the others who left us that nobody who betrays us ever succeeds,” he added.
Reports suggest Governor Yusuf is preparing to leave the NNPP and may dump the party for the APC, with or without the blessing of his political mentor, Senator Kwankwaso.
The governor is said to have made the decision after consultations with stakeholders, including Kano State House of Assembly members, local government chairmen, and some federal lawmakers from the state.
Although Governor Yusuf has yet to officially announce his defection, former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad indicated that the move to the ruling party is imminent.
