Festive Outing Turns Tragic As Three Feared Dead at Benue River
At least three persons are feared dead after a leisure outing turned tragic at River Buruku in Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State.
The incident reportedly occurred on December 26, 2025, when a group of individuals visited the river for a picnic.
The outing, however, took a devastating turn as the victims were suspected to have drowned.
Rescue and recovery efforts carried out the following day led to the retrieval of three bodies from the river.
Information circulating on social media indicated that emergency responders were mobilised to the scene.
Distressing images showed an ambulance, security personnel and a large crowd gathered along the riverbank during the operation.
River Buruku is widely known for its fast-flowing currents and has been the site of several drowning incidents in the past.
Such incidents are said to be common during festive periods when visitors flock to the area for recreation.
Despite repeated warnings from community leaders and safety officials, the river continues to attract residents seeking leisure.
