2027: Atiku, Obi Yet to Discuss ADC Presidential Ticket — Paul Ibe

The Special Adviser to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Media, Paul Ibe, has clarified that his principal and former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, have not engaged in any talks regarding the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general election.

Ibe made the statement on ARISE Television’s Prime Time on Wednesday, dismissing claims of any compromise discussions between the two opposition figures.

He described the idea of such talks as “putting the cart before the horse,” adding, “I can tell you for a fact that what you just said now is not one of the conversations they are having.”

According to him, both leaders are focused on strengthening the ADC as a viable opposition platform capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Their preoccupation is building the party, ensuring they have a robust opposition and platform that can give the APC a run for their money,” Ibe said.

The media aide also accused the APC of stoking debates about the ADC ticket to destabilise the opposition coalition.

His remarks come amid warnings from some of Obi’s allies, including Aisha Yesufu and Prof Pat Utomi, that they might withdraw support if Obi accepts a vice-presidential slot within the coalition.

Earlier, in a statement signed by Ibe, Atiku reiterated that no aspirant within the ADC would step down for another, emphasising the party’s commitment to an open and competitive process.

Ibe stressed that ticket-sharing discussions are premature, with the immediate priority being consolidation of the coalition and presenting a credible alternative to the APC ahead of 2027.
