I’ve Never Been Bribed, Says EFCC Boss
The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has insisted that his public service career remains free of bribery and corruption, declaring that he has never demanded or received bribes in the course of his duties.
Speaking on Sunday during an interview on Channels Television, Olukoyede said no one could truthfully accuse him of collecting bribes at any point in his career.
“If you have ever offered me a bribe, and I collected, come out and say it,” he said.
The EFCC chairman maintained that his record in public office is unblemished.
“All through my service in the public sector as chief of staff in the EFCC, as secretary in EFCC, and I made bold to say that I have never been involved in any fraudulent activities,” Olukoyede stated.
He added that no Nigerian could claim he ever accepted any inducement to influence his judgement while in office.
“I served as chief of staff, no Nigerian, and I challenged anybody to say that this man has ever collected one bottle of Coke or N1 to influence my sense of judgment in carrying out my responsibility,” he said.
Olukoyede also addressed his role in asset management and disposal while serving as EFCC secretary.
“As a secretary, I have cause to manage assets and to dispose of assets, and never, you can’t trace an asset to me or any of my family as a matter of principle,” he said.
He stressed that no individual could accuse him of collecting money in the discharge of his responsibilities.
“And no Nigerian can say I collected one dime in the course of carrying out my activities,” he added.
The EFCC boss dismissed allegations of fraudulent indictment against him.
“So, the issue of fraudulent indictment, I don’t know where that would have come from in the first place,” Olukoyede said.
He concluded by affirming his commitment to diligence, loyalty, and the mandate of the commission.
“I do my work with every sense of diligence and commitment, loyalty to the mandate,” he said.
