2027 Presidential Ticket: “Avoid Another Wike Scenario,” Dele Momodu Cautions ADC
Politician and political commentator Dele Momodu has cautioned the African Democratic Congress (ADC) against internal crises capable of derailing its 2027 presidential ambition, warning the party to avoid repeating what he described as the “Wike scenario” that destabilised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Momodu gave the warning in a post shared on his X page on Monday, January 12, where he reflected on the formation of the opposition coalition that adopted ADC as a common platform to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He recalled being present in Abuja last year when leaders and members of various opposition parties converged to adopt ADC as their political vehicle, stressing that participation in the coalition was voluntary.
“No one forced anyone to join. The main conveners promised to make it an open party for all, and one that will uphold democratic tenets,” he said.
According to Momodu, assurances were also given at the meeting that discipline would be enforced to prevent a repeat of the internal chaos that crippled the PDP. “No group or individual will be allowed to cause chaos, like it happened in PDP, and ADC will enforce discipline,” he noted, adding that he was particularly encouraged by the emergence of former Senate President, General David Mark (rtd), as chairman of the party.
“I was most elated hearing these beautiful words. I was happy to see an Army veteran and General David Mark as Chairman knowing he would brook no nonsense,” Momodu stated.
However, the Ovation publisher expressed concern that recent developments within the party suggest a deviation from those founding principles. He lamented what he described as the introduction of “aggression and rambunctiousness” by some groups within the coalition.
Questioning the sustainability of the alliance, Momodu asked, “How can a coalition work if some groups insist they must produce the top ticket by donation and coronation, without election or persuasion?”
He further warned against mutual hostility among coalition partners, saying, “Why unleash tantrums and expletives on one another as if one group can win national elections without the others?”
Drawing parallels with the PDP’s internal struggles, Momodu cautioned that failure to act decisively could hand undue influence to dominant factions, as was the case with former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
“This was how Nyesom Wike held PDP by the jugular till it became too late to be dislodged or expelled,” he warned.
Momodu concluded by urging the ADC leadership to act swiftly to preserve unity and discipline within the party.
“This is why, and when, ADC must rise up and enforce discipline before it is too late. ADC should be a party of love and not a Fuji house of commotion,” he said.
