A retired Customs officer, Emmanuel Owolabi, who was kidnapped at his residence in Ora four weeks ago, has regained freedom.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Asiwaju of Ora-Igbomina, Ambassador Yemi Farounbi.

OSUN DEFENDER reports that bandits on December 16, 2025 unleashed terror on residents and travellers in the community.

The attackers reportedly stormed Akisa Road in Ora, where they kidnapped the retired Customs officer from his residence.

According to sources, Emmanuel was followed to his residence by the gunmen, who later whisked him away after they were unable to get money from his family.

In a press statement issued on behalf of the community on Tuesday, Ambassador Farounbi, expressed gratitude to God for the safe return of the elder statesman, describing him as a patriot and a worthy senior citizen.

OSUN DEFENDER, however, reliably gathered that the community paid ransom in millions before the victim was released.

The statement also appreciated the Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, for his support and assistance throughout the period of captivity, while expressing confidence that the government would continue to strengthen security and expand government presence, particularly in boundary areas of the state.

Commendation was extended to the Police, the Military, and other security and intelligence agencies for their efforts and sacrifices in safeguarding lives and property across the country.

The statement concluded with a call for continued unity and self-reliance, stressing that community cooperation remains essential to addressing shared challenges.
