AFCON: CAF Appoints Ghanaian Referee, South African Officials for Nigeria vs Morocco
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has named a Ghanaian referee and a team of South African officials to oversee Wednesday’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final between Nigeria and Morocco.
Ghana’s Daniel Nii Laryea will take charge as the main referee, assisted by South Africa’s Zakhele Siwela and Lesotho’s Souru Phatsoane.
Mozambique’s Arsénio Maringule will serve as the third assistant referee, while Rwanda’s Samuel Uwikunda has been appointed fourth official.
CAF also announced the officials for video assistant referee (VAR) duties: South Africa’s Tom Abongile, Tunisia’s Haythem Guirat, and Kenya’s Stephen Yiembe.
Ethiopia’s Lydia Abebe will act as referee assessor for the match.
The Super Eagles will face the Atlas Lions at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 9 p.m. Nigerian time.
Nigeria reached the semi-finals after a 2–0 quarter-final win over Algeria.
They had previously secured a dominant victory over Mozambique in the knockout stage and finished the group phase with a perfect nine points.
Under coach Eric Chelle, the Super Eagles have been the tournament’s highest scorers, netting 14 goals — a new national record for goals in a single AFCON edition.
