Popular Nigerian gospel singer Bunmi Akinnanu, renowned for her hit song “Omije Ojumi,” has died.

The news was confirmed on Tuesday evening by a close source familiar with the singer’s family.

No official statement has been released yet, but further details are expected in the coming days.

Akinnanu’s passing comes after months of public appeals for prayers as she battled a serious leg ailment.

In late 2025, a video from G.F. David Ministries in Ibadan, Oyo State, showed the singer seated with her leg extended while prayers were offered for her healing.

The presiding cleric revealed that Akinnanu had been experiencing persistent bleeding in her leg, prompting an intense prayer session.

The video quickly went viral, drawing nationwide attention and prompting fans and well-wishers to organise prayer vigils and share messages of support across social media.

Details of her medical condition were never officially disclosed.

Bunmi Akinnanu began her music journey at the age of 10.

She later left a career in banking to pursue gospel music full-time, eventually rising to prominence with “Omije Ojumi,” a song that resonated deeply with Nigerians.

Over the years, she released several other tracks, earning recognition as one of the respected voices in the Nigerian gospel music industry.
