The Osun State Government has said those weaponising the Local Government issue, including the withholding and obstructing payment of Local Government funds are fighting the people of the state.

The state government said no court ordered the reinstatement of All Progressives Congress Yes or No council.

In a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the state government accused the APC of attempting to smuggle power through the back door after losing it through lawful means.

The statement said, “Those who now cite court judgments while encouraging actions that starve Local Governments of funds should know this; they cannot claim to love the rule of law while actively strangling the grassroots, and suffocating the livelihood of Osun citizens.”

The state government added that local government funds are meant for teachers, health workers, market women, traditional institutions, sanitation, and community services and not for settling political scores.

“Anyone blocking these funds is openly declaring war on the Osun grassroots populace, and history shows that such cruelty is never forgiven by voters. Notably, for Osun citizens, forgiveness of manufactured hardship is a sin.

“Autonomy does not mean anarchy. It does not permit individuals to declare themselves in office, seize public spaces, or attempt to access public funds without lawful backing. Democracy is not a jungle, and Osun will not be turned into one for the comfort of failed politicians. At least, not in the desperate interest of a dejected helsman,” Alimi stated.

The statement further warned that those punishing Osun People through the local government would be punished by the Osun People.

“Let it be on record that any attempt to frustrate Osun Local Governments, cripple grassroots development, or punish innocent citizens in the name of politics is noted by the people. The Osun electorate is watching, recording, and will respond decisively.

“The Osun State Government under Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke will continue to stand on the side of the people, the Constitution, and the rule of law.

“We will not bow to political noise, nor will we allow the grassroots to be held hostage by those who lost legitimacy and now seek relevance through chaos,” the statement concluded.
