The federal lawmakers elected under the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State have debunked reports of the dissolution of the Osun State Executive Committee of the party, describing the announcement as illegal, unconstitutional, and of no effect.

OSUN DEFENDER reports that the Taminu Turaki-led Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Thursday, announced the appointment of a caretaker committee to oversee affairs of the party in Osun State.

The announcement was made in a statement signed by Theophilus Dakas Shan, National Organising Secretary of the PDP.

He stated that the appointment was made by the National Working Committee (NWC) acting on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC), in line with Section 29(2)(b) of the PDP Constitution (2025, as amended).

The faction named
Hon. Tunde Tijani, as the caretaker Chairman, while Hon. Bamidele Seyi-Abiola was named Secretary.

Other members of the committee include, Lateef Mumini Obide,
Alhaji Sarafa Gbadamosi, Adewoyin Babatunde, Ajileye Wasiu Aderemi, and Oluresi Michael Adebanji.

However, the PDP National Assembly Caucus of while reacting to the reported dissolution in a statement issued on Thursday and signed by the 7 lawmaker, affirmed that the Osun State Executive Committee of the PDP was validly elected for a constitutionally guaranteed tenure of four years, which cannot be truncated or dissolved in clear contravention of the party’s constitution and in total breach of democratic norms.

The caucus stressed that a lawfully elected state executive committee enjoys a secured legal tenure, which cannot and must not be tampered with, particularly by an unrecognised and illegitimate national leadership structure.

According to the caucus, there is presently no recognised national leadership of the party, and it is therefore illegal and irresponsible for any unrecognised body to arrogate to itself powers that the law and the party constitution do not confer.

“An unrecognised and unelected body lacks the legal authority to dissolve a validly elected and tenured state executive council. Such a purported dissolution is null, void, and of no consequence.

“The Osun State PDP Executive Committee remains valid, subsisting, and fully in charge. We urge our teeming members across Osun State to completely disregard this baseless announcement. The executive team has a four-year mandate and is constitutionally empowered to serve out its tenure without interference,” the caucus declared.

The Osun PDP National Assembly Caucus reiterated its unflinching support for the existing party structures in the state and warned against continued attempts by desperate actors to destabilise the party in Osun State.
