The three prominent indigenes of the town, Dr. Ismail Olasunkanmi Adeyemi, Alhaji Gazali Dewale Lawal, and Sheik Yunus Balogun, died within a space of one week.
While Adeyemi, the Medical Director of Cristal Hospital, Akowonjo, Lagos, was a renowned medical practitioner based in Lagos, Lawal retired as Deputy Inspector General of Police and served as the Asiwaju of Ikirun till he breathed his last and Balogun, a prominent Islamic scholar, was the grand Chief Imam if Ikirun until his death.
The incident, no doubt, threw the people of Ikirun into serious sorrow and mourning, even as many residents of the town, especially relatives of the deceased, still mourn the deaths.
The news of the death of Dr Adeyemi broke first and was followed by that of Lawal, while that of Sheik Balogun filtered on Monday.
Adeyemi had shown interest in the vacant stool of the Akinrun of Ikirun and he was said to be the choice of the Asiwaju of Ikirun and many other influential people of the town, especially the elites.
However, the death of the prominent medical guru and direct son of Akinrun Lawani Adeyemi who reigned till 1990 brought an abrupt end to his desire to ascend the throne of Akinrun of Ikirun.
The three deceased persons, who were all Muslims, had since been buried according to Islamic rites but the people of the town still mourn their demise as issues relating to their deaths still take centre stage in all discussions in the town.
