Shehu Sani Urges Stronger Community Action to Tackle Insecurity
Former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has called for stronger community-based initiatives to combat insecurity across the country.
Speaking on Saturday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, Sani stressed that local communities must build resilience and collective resistance against repeated attacks by bandits and terrorists.
He noted that state security agencies cannot be everywhere at once, making community vigilance essential to complement government efforts.
He lamented that banditry and terrorism have persisted for over a decade in several northern states, causing mass kidnappings, village destruction, and the displacement of millions.
He also raised concern about the growing number of young Nigerians risking dangerous journeys abroad.
Many, he said, are exploited for prostitution, drug trafficking, and other crimes, often enduring harsh conditions for months or years, particularly in Libya, before being forced across the Mediterranean.
Sani urged Nigerians to pursue their dreams within the country, emphasising that success is possible at home with determination.
“There is no dream for you to realise in Europe; your dream can be realised here, in your own country,” he said.
