Why I Want To Govern Oyo — Broadcaster Oriyomi Hamzat
Popular broadcaster and grassroots mobiliser, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, has explained the reasons behind his decision to join the Accord Party and declare his intention to contest the 2027 Oyo State governorship election, saying his ambition is driven by a genuine desire to serve the people.
Hamzat made this known while addressing supporters at Liberty Stadium, Ibadan, where he officially announced his entry into partisan politics after years of political neutrality.
According to him, the “Oyo n Pe O” movement was born out of the yearnings of ordinary citizens and not created to promote the ambition of any individual.
He stressed that the call to govern the state came directly from the grassroots.
“I am not coming into this race because of personal ambition or the influence of godfathers. I am here because the people are calling and I believe governance should reflect the true needs of the masses,” Hamzat said.
The broadcaster disclosed that he does not have vast financial resources nor the backing of political heavyweights at the state or federal levels, noting that his strength lies in the support of everyday citizens across Oyo State.
Hamzat confirmed that he would be on the ballot as the governorship candidate of the Accord Party, adding that his vision for Oyo State is anchored on inclusive governance, improved welfare and people-centred development.
He also appealed to his supporters to remain peaceful, shun violence, and safeguard their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), stressing that genuine change can only be achieved through lawful and democratic means.
