Kajuru 177: We’ll Ensure They Return Home Safely — Gov Sani
Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has vowed to ensure the safe and speedy rescue of 177 residents abducted from Kurmin Wali, a remote community in Kajuru Local Government Area, during a weekend attack that also left several others injured.
Governor Sani visited the community on Monday, accompanied by Police Commissioner Muhammad Rabiu, Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs Sule Shuaibu (SAN), Kajuru LGA Chairman Dauda Madaki, and senior security officials, to sympathise with residents and reassure families of the abducted.
“In Kaduna State, every life matters. We are collaborating with all security agencies to ensure that those abducted return home safely,” Sani said, noting that the state would cover medical treatment for those injured during the attack.
The governor acknowledged the initial delay in confirming the abductions, which sparked controversy after the police and state government initially could not verify the incident.
He said full attention is now on rescue operations, with the state working closely with the military, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and the Office of the National Security Adviser.
Sani dismissed debates over the number of abducted persons, saying, “We are not talking about numbers or politics. We are talking about the sanctity of human life. Whether one person or many, the responsibility of government remains the same.”
He warned against politicising insecurity, urging that uninformed commentary could undermine ongoing efforts.
The governor expressed confidence that the abducted villagers would be recovered within days.
Addressing long-standing community concerns, Sani promised immediate intervention on the poor access road to Kurmin Wali and plans to establish a permanent military presence to deter criminal activity from nearby forests.
He also announced the construction of a hospital in the community and directed relevant agencies to begin work on the access road, with a groundbreaking expected in the coming days.
