The Ekiti State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, has arrested 16 suspected bandits who reportedly migrated into the state from neighbouring Kwara State.

The Director of Information of the Corps, Mr. Abiodun Adeleye, disclosed that the suspects were apprehended after they were sighted in large numbers with cattle at the Gede farm settlement in Isan-Ekiti, Oye Local Government Area of the state.

The development reportedly threw residents of the community into a state of confusion, prompting swift security action.

According to Adeleye, operatives of the Corps were immediately reinforced from nearby outposts and redeployed to Oye town, where a coordinated operation led to the successful arrest of the suspects.

He said preliminary interrogation revealed that the suspects fled Kwara State due to intensified security operations against banditry in the area. The suspects allegedly confessed to involvement in cattle rustling, particularly targeting cattle belonging to some Kwara indigenes.

Items recovered from the suspects include some cash, seven Tecno mobile phones, various charms, three Vigilante Group of Nigeria identity cards, as well as several herds of cattle.

Adeleye added that all the suspects have been handed over to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Ekiti State Police Command in Ado-Ekiti for further investigation and possible prosecution.
