PDP Slams Kwara Gov’s Response to Bandits Attack as Cosmetic, Ineffective
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has criticised Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq’s response to the recent bandit attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area, calling it “cosmetic” and lacking any real reassurance for victims.
In a statement issued in Ilorin on Wednesday, the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, condemned the governor’s reaction to the attack, which left at least 10 residents dead.
OSUN DEFENDER reports that assailants struck the Woro and Nuku communities late Tuesday night, killing residents, burning houses, and forcing many villagers to flee.
Describing the attack as “gruesome, despicable, inhuman and callous,” the PDP noted that a former Students’ Union President of a tertiary institution in the state was among those killed.
“This is a wicked act that no human should ever inflict on fellow human beings,” the party said.
Adewara said the incident exposed the state government’s failure to effectively tackle insecurity, insisting that Kwara required more than “propaganda, photo-ops and hollow sympathy messages” to confront insurgency and banditry. “What Kwara urgently needs is decisive, practical and people-oriented leadership,” the statement read.
The PDP argued that the governor’s official communication on the incident offered no hope or concrete support for the victims.
“A responsible government would have ordered the immediate deployment of humanitarian relief and medical emergency services to assist the victims and help the community cope with this painful tragedy,” the statement added.
The party further accused the governor of presenting a distorted picture of security in the state, describing his statement as “riddled with self-adulation” while insecurity, kidnappings, and attacks on villages continue across Kwara.
The PDP urged the state government to urgently provide humanitarian aid, relief materials, and medical support to the affected communities.
It also called on security agencies to intensify efforts to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
While mourning with the people of Woro and Nuku, the party extended condolences to the Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji Omar Shehu Muazu, Kiyaru II, praying for the eternal rest of the deceased and lasting peace in Kwara State.
