Timi Frank Petitions Trump Over Alleged Plot to Rig 2027 Elections
Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and political activist, Timi Frank, has petitioned United States President Donald Trump, warning that Nigeria’s democracy is under serious threat.
In a statement over the weekend, Frank alleged that the ruling party and the National Assembly leadership are plotting to establish a one-party authoritarian state, describing the move as “political genocide” against Nigerians.
He urged Trump and the international community to intervene, cautioning that failure to act could trigger unrest, violent conflict, and a breakdown of law and order.
“Nigeria’s general elections scheduled for February 2027 are under serious threat. If current developments are not addressed, they may result in widespread unrest, possible anarchy, and a breakdown of law and order,” Frank said.
He accused the ruling party, in collaboration with a “highly compromised” Senate President, of laying the groundwork to manipulate and rig the 2027 elections.
Frank also warned U.S. lawmakers against endorsing the Nigerian government indiscriminately, saying such moves risk legitimising “illegality and oppression,” and called for intervention to preserve stability in West Africa’s largest democracy.
The call comes shortly after the Senate passed the controversial electoral amendment bill, which sparked debates over the electronic transmission of election results.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, however, insisted the National Assembly would not be intimidated by dissenting voices.
