A 65-year-old man, simply identified as Ibrahim Raheem, has been apprehended by the Oyo State Police Command over an alleged case of defilement involving a six-year-old girl in Ibadan.

In a statement on Sunday, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the command is currently investigating the distressing case of attempted defilement.

According to reports, the victim was allegedly coerced and indecently assaulted on several occasions in December 2025 while hawking at the Onikeke area of Ayegun, Ibadan.

The alleged perpetrator reportedly confessed to indecently abusing the minor but denied engaging in carnal knowledge of the child.

The victim has since received a comprehensive medical examination and socio-psychological care to address the trauma suffered as a result of the incident.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Femi Haruna, has directed that the case be transferred to the Command’s specialised Gender Desk for a discreet, thorough, and professional investigation.

The statement noted that the Command remains committed to protecting vulnerable children and ensuring that perpetrators of such acts are brought to justice.
