Peter Obi Joins Protest Demanding E-Transmission of Election Results
Former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has joined the #OccupyNationalAssembly protest in Abuja to demand electoral reforms.
The protest comes after the Senate failed to approve the mandatory electronic transmission of election results in the Electoral Act Amendment Bill.
Obi’s participation has intensified pressure on lawmakers, joining the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room, a coalition of 70 non-governmental organisations, who plan to occupy the National Assembly complex from Monday until the harmonisation of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill is concluded.
They expressed doubts that the conference committee will deliver legislation reflecting the will of the people.
