BREAKING: Appeal Court Affirms Sen Natasha’s Suspension
The Court of Appeal in Abuja has affirmed the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District.
In a unanimous decision delivered on Monday by a three-judge panel, the court held that the Senate acted within its constitutional and legislative authority in suspending the lawmaker over misconduct.
The judges ruled that the suspension did not infringe on Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s parliamentary privileges or any of her constitutional rights.
However, the court overturned the contempt proceedings against her and nullified the N5 million fine she was ordered to pay following a satirical apology directed at the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio.
Justice A. B. Muhammed, delivering the lead judgment, stated that the contempt charge lacked legal basis and should not have been entertained by the lower court.
