Man Arrested for Violent Attack on Motorcyclist in Oyo

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 38-year-old man, identified as Saheed Eegunjobi, for his alleged involvement in a violent attack on a commercial motorcyclist in Ibadan.

The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ayanlade Olayinka. He said the suspect was apprehended through a joint operation involving police officers and community-based security partners, particularly the Agbekoya Vigilante Group, and was handed over to a patrol team at the Idi-Aro Divisional Headquarters.

According to the police, the suspect and an accomplice, who is currently at large, posed as passengers and boarded a commercial motorcycle from the Mokola area of Ibadan.

On reaching Modina area of Idi-Aro, they allegedly attacked the rider, Sakiru Tiamiyu, 32, with a cutlass, inflicting head injuries.

The accomplice reportedly escaped with the motorcycle, while the suspect was apprehended by passersby.

The injured rider was taken to hospital and investigations are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect and recover the stolen motorcycle.
