No fewer than ten shops were completely gutted by fire at the Iya Maryam Adebara Complex in the Ogunpa Market area of Ibadan on Monday night.

The incident was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Mr. Moroof Akinwande.

According to the statement, the fire occurred at about 8:11 p.m. and was allegedly caused by a generator being fueled by one of the shop occupants.

Akinwande said the agency received a distress call via telephone from the Baale of Ogunpa, Alhaji Nurudeen Lawal, and promptly deployed firefighters to the scene.

“On arrival, our personnel discovered that about ten shops had already been engulfed by fire,” he said.

He added that fire officers acted swiftly to prevent the blaze from spreading to other shops and nearby properties, with support from the Federal Fire Service.

No casualties were recorded in the incident. Akinwande also commended officers from the Iyaganku Police Headquarters for providing adequate security during the operation.
