Fire Guts Building in Gombe, Destroys Property Worth ₦10m
A fire outbreak on Wednesday razed a building at Kagarawal Quarters, opposite the District Head’s residence in Gombe, destroying property estimated at about ₦10 million, the Federal Fire Service has said.
The incident occurred within the operational jurisdiction of the ATM Fire Operations Base.
Firefighters from the Federal Fire Service, Gombe State Command, led by Assistant Superintendent of Fire Waziri James Anthony, were immediately mobilised to the scene.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASF Bashir Mu’azu, who confirmed the incident, said the crew responded promptly after receiving a distress call and managed to bring the blaze under control before it could spread to nearby buildings.
“Our officers responded swiftly to the distress call and were able to contain the inferno before it escalated into a major disaster.
“Through timely intervention, we successfully salvaged valuables and prevented the fire from spreading to adjoining structures,” Mu’azu stated.
He praised the firefighters for their professionalism, noting that their rapid response helped to limit the extent of the damage.
The Command also urged residents to make fire safety a priority and to report emergencies without delay to prevent widespread destruction.
“We call on members of the public to always take proactive safety measures and promptly alert the Fire Service at the first sign of any outbreak,” Mu’azu added.
Meanwhile, a similar incident was recorded in January when a fire destroyed a residential building in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, leaving no fewer than 28 apartments affected.
The blaze reportedly began in one of the apartments at about 2 a.m. and spread rapidly to adjoining flats before reaching nearby shops.
