ADC Warns Lagos Residents Against Sharing PVC Details With Political Groups
The Lagos State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has urged residents to refrain from sharing images or personal details from their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) with political organisations or unauthorised individuals.
The warning came in a statement on Thursday from the party’s Directorate of Communication, signed by spokesperson Oluwasegun Adekayero.
Adekayero explained that the alert follows a circulating message allegedly asking Lagos residents, particularly on the mainland, to submit clear photographs of their PVCs via WhatsApp for political mobilisation.
Describing the trend as dangerous, he said such requests compromise voter privacy and the integrity of the democratic process.
“ADC considers it necessary, in the interest of public safety and democratic integrity, to caution Lagosians against sharing sensitive personal information with partisan groups,” Adekayero said.
He stressed that PVCs are confidential electoral documents issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and must be handled with care.
“The Permanent Voter Card contains sensitive data which must be protected at all times,” he said.
“Indiscriminate collection of PVC images through informal channels raises serious concerns about data privacy, voter protection, and the possible misuse of citizens’ personal information.”
Adekayero also emphasised that political mobilisation should be lawful and transparent, building trust rather than coercion.
He advised residents to safeguard their PVCs, avoid sharing them on unsecured platforms, and report any suspicious requests to the relevant authorities.
Reaffirming the party’s commitment to credible democratic engagement, he added, “We will continue to prioritise civic education, policy dialogue, and lawful grassroots mobilisation, rather than the collection of private voter data. Democracy thrives only when citizens are informed, protected, and respected.”
