Abia State Deputy Governor, Ikechukwu Emetu, has denied reports claiming he threatened President Bola Tinubu over the continued detention of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, and the 2027 general elections, describing the publication as fabricated and misleading.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Chukwudi Mba, the deputy governor said a report titled “2027: Abia State Govt Will Teach Tinubu A Bitter Lesson Over Nnamdi Kanu’s Detention — Deputy Governor Emetu” was false and a deliberate misrepresentation.

The statement said the report lacked verifiable context and failed to provide basic details such as the date, venue, or occasion where the alleged remarks were made.

It added that no official event, interview, press briefing, or public engagement exists where Emetu made the statements attributed to him.

The deputy governor also denied ever threatening to “teach” the President or any member of his family a “bitter political lesson,” or making comments about the 2027 elections or Kanu’s detention as claimed in the report.

According to the statement, the language credited to him does not reflect his character, temperament, or leadership style.

It stressed that Emetu remains committed to civil discourse, democratic engagement, and issue-based politics, rather than inflammatory remarks or personal attacks.

The statement noted that while the issue of Nnamdi Kanu’s detention remains sensitive and evokes strong emotions among many Nigerians, the deputy governor believes such matters should be handled through lawful and constitutional means, including dialogue.

It further expressed concern that a media platform could publish such serious allegations without proper verification or confirmation from the Office of the Deputy Governor, warning that fabricated quotations attributed to public officials are capable of misleading the public and heightening political tension.

The statement added that Emetu is focused on supporting the state governor in delivering good governance, promoting development initiatives, and strengthening democratic institutions in Abia State.
