Kannywood Actress Samha Inuwa Sentenced to Jail for Wiping Nose With Naira Notes
A Federal High Court in Kano has sentenced Kannywood actress, Saadatu Mohammed Inuwa, popularly known as Samha Inuwa, to six months in prison for abusing a naira note.
Justice S.M. Shuaibu delivered the judgment on Friday after Inuwa was convicted on a one-count charge of naira mutilation, an offence under the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act of 2007.
The charge stated that the actress tampered with a N1,000 note in 2022 by soiling it with her nose. Inuwa pleaded guilty when the charge was read in court.
During proceedings, prosecuting counsel Musa Isah urged the court to convict and sentence her, while Inuwa begged for leniency, citing her remorse and status as a first-time offender.
The judge convicted her and sentenced her to six months imprisonment but gave her the option to pay a fine of N200,000.
OSUN DEFENDER reports that the EFCC had intensified its crackdown on naira abuse in 2024, citing Section 21 of the CBN Act, which prohibits mutilation, spraying, or stamping of currency.
Offenders face fines and imprisonment, and several notable Nigerians have previously been arrested for similar offences.
