My Father Didn’t Tap Anyone’s Phone – Bashir El-Rufai
Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has said his father never admitted to tapping anyone’s phone, clarifying that he only claimed that someone else carried out the act and passed the information to him without being prompted.
According to him, his father did not authorise or initiate any phone tapping.
He urged members of the public not to twist the narrative in a way that could land his father in trouble, appealing to critics to desist from attempts to implicate him.
Writing on X, Bashir stated, “He did not say HE tapped anybody’s phone. He alleged someone else did and unsolicitedly shared the information to him. No dey try help dem put my Papa for prison, abeg.”
His reaction followed calls by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, for an investigation into El-Rufai over what he described as the seriousness of the former governor’s remarks.
El-Rufai had earlier said during a live television interview that he had information regarding a conversation on the phone of National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
Bashir, however, maintained that his father did not carry out any phone tapping himself.
